Taylor Swifts Twitter was hacked but Taylor says the hackers got nothing

If you took the time to read Taylor Swift’s full Rolling Stone interview last year, you have no doubt that Tay-Tay keeps all of her technology/social media stuff locked down tight. She spent a lot of time talking to RS about how she doesn’t trust her iPhone, how she operates as if she’s always about to be hacked and how she takes her personal and online security very seriously. Basically, Swifty isn’t going to have any oopsie-daisy nude photos leak, either on leaked-on-purpose or leaked-because-of-hackers. But still, the hackers tried.

Pshhh, what nudes? Taylor Swift’s social media accounts were hijacked on Tuesday, Jan. 27, by so-called elite hackers who threatened to release nude photos of the pop superstar in exchange for bitcoins. Swift, however, retorted that there were no naked pics and told the offenders to “have fun” finding any.

The story began early Tuesday when several updates were tweeted from Swift’s accounts, instructing her 50 million-plus fans to follow two specific members of the Lizard Squad, @lizard and @veriuser.

The Lizard Squad is a group of hackers who claimed they were behind North Korea’s Internet shutdown amidst the Sony leak scandal. Over the holidays, the same group apparently took down the entire PlayStation and Xbox Live gaming networks. They were also reportedly responsible for Monday evening’s temporary Facebook and Instagram issues.

Someone from Swift’s team promptly deleted the tweets, but the hackers claimed that they had access to nude photos of the 1989 hitmaker (via The Verge). The accounts @lizard and @veruser were suspended by Twitter as of Tuesday afternoon.

One of Taylor’s friends or fans alerted her to her hacked Twitter account quickly, and Swifty and her team took care of the problem within a few hours (and excellent turnaround). Swifty posted this to her Tumblr: “My Twitter got hacked but don’t worry, Twitter is deleting the hacker tweets and locking my account until they can figure out how this happened and get me new passwords. Never a dull moment.” She also regained control of her Twitter and tweeted out some amusing thoughts:

Cause the hackers gonna hack, hack, hack, hack, hack…

PS any hackers saying they have 'nudes'? Psssh you'd love that wouldn't you! Have fun photoshopping cause you got NOTHING.

Yeah, I don’t think she’s just putting on a brave face. She knows they don’t have anything but the ability to be a minor annoyance. Taylor was actually worried about being hacked months before the massive celebrity-nude photo leak and I just doubt that she would EVER take a nude selfie. And if she did, she wouldn’t have anything like that on her Twitter account! (Watch, now that I’ve said that, we’re going to be drowning in Swifty nudes.)

Gawker got their hands on what some people claim are some of Swifty’s DMs, but again… no nudes. She just DMs some celebrity friends (Nick Jonas, musician BØRNS) with whale puns and meet-up times for drinks and a card game. I mean, if those are her most scandalous private messages, the hackers really did get nothing. Still… I want to know what Taylor and Karlie Kloss have to say to each other in private.
