Wilson is also known for his unorthodox approaches to pop composition and mastery of recording techniques. Oftenly he is referred to as a “genius” and is widely acknowledged as one of the most innovative and significant songwriters of the late 20th century.

Her mother is known as Marilyn Wilson-Rutherford who was born February 6, 1947. She is an American singer best known as the first wife of Beach Boy Brian Wilson, and as the mother of singers Carnie Wilson and Wendy Wilson of Wilson Phillips. She founded the Honeys in the 1960s, and after their dissolution in 1969, she founded American Spring with her sister Diane Rovell.

Carnie has been fighting with obesity in her life time. She reached a lifetime weight peak of almost 300 pounds (140 kg) during her Wilson Phillips fame . She was ridiculed for her weight by comedians. She tried dieting but it was unsuccessful she just lost some weight only to regain it later. She underwent gastric bypass surgery in August 1999 , which she felt was a life-saving decision. This procedure was broadcast live on the Internet. As a result, Carnie went from a size 28 to a size 6 and lost 150 pounds. Wilson posed nude for Playboy in 2003 .

To publicize her satisfaction with the procedure carnie later toured TV talk shows, and hosted her own infomercial . Despite that , she eventually gained back some weight, and ended up as a contestant on the fourth season of VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club in 2006. During the course of the show, Wilson lost 22 pounds, which she eventually gained back. Wilson was widely ridiculed for her weight gain in May 2008, and vowed to get back in Playboy shape, and hopefully pose nude for them again.

    The name of the band is Wilson Phillips. It is an American vocal group consisting of Carnie Wilson, Wendy Wilson, and Chynna Phillips, the daughters, respectively, of Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys and of John and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas.

    Their 1990 eponymous debut album sold over 10 million copies worldwide and placed three number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, making the trio the best-selling female group at the time. The group won the Billboard Music Award for Hot 100 Single of the Year for “Hold On,” in 1990 and in addition was nominated for five Grammy Awards and two American Music Awards.

    Carnie co-founded Wilson Phillips with her younger sister Wendy and childhood friend Chynna Phillips when they were in their teens. Carnie together with her team they released two albums, Wilson Phillips and Shadows and Light, which between them sold 12 million copies. The group also charted three No. 1 singles and six top 20 hits in the United States before disbanding in 1993.

    Carnie and Wendy Wilson they continued recording together, releasing the Christmas album Hey Santa! in 1993. Their father joined them for a critically successful (yet commercially unsuccessful) 1997 album, The Wilsons. Carnie also sang “Our Time Has Come” with James Ingram for the 1997 animated film Cats Don’t Dance.

    Carnie attempted to launch a solo music career with the album For the First Time in 2003 . The album featured a remake of the Olivia DiNucci-penned Samantha Mumba ballad “Don’t Need You To (Tell Me I’m Pretty),” retitled “I Don’t Need You To,” as its first single. However, the single failed to gain interest and the album was ultimately shelved when Carnie regrouped with Wendy and Chynna as Wilson Phillips in 2004.

    After they reunited , the band released a third album, named California, which appeared on Sony Music’s record label. The album featured cover songs primarily from the 1960s and 1970s, and specifically highlights the musical glory days of their parents’ California-based musical groups: The Mamas & the Papas and the Beach Boys.

    In 2006, Carnie released an album of lullabies, A Mother’s Gift: Lullabies from the Heart,  created shortly after the birth of her daughter, Lola. She released her second solo effort in October 2007, a Christmas album entitled Christmas with Carnie featuring a song written by her husband; “Warm Lovin’ Christmastime”.

    Carnie hosted her own short-lived syndicated television talk show Carnie! From 1995–1996. The series was launched during the mid-1990s wave of popularity in “tabloid” talk shows, which followed the sudden successes of Ricki Lake and Jerry Springer. Former Cosmopolitan Magazine Bachelor-of-the-Month Chris Greeley was a guest on the television pilot. Carnie found the experience a disappointment and a source of professional and personal frustration.

    Additionally, a reality show starring Wilson, Carnie Wilson: Unstapled, started airing on Game Show Network on January 14, 2010.  Carnie became a judge on the ABC show Karaoke Battle USA in August 2011 .

    Wilson appeared on ABC’s Celebrity Wife Swap on January 2, 2012 , trading places with actress Tracey Gold for a week.

    Carnie along with her sister Wendy Wilson and childhood best friend Chynna Phillips in the spring of 2012 starred in their own reality show on the TV Guide Network about the rebirth of her band Wilson Phillips. The show was named as  Wilson Phillips: Still Holding On, logged the journey of the girls getting back together to reform Wilson Phillips on the road, in the studio and at home as working mothers. In November 2011 a pilot episode aired; seven additional episodes aired in April and May 2012.

    She played herself as an auto insurance claimant on a Progressive Insurance TV commercial.  It was announced on January 28, 2016 that she is going to be a contestant on The New Celebrity Apprentice (also known as The Apprentice 15 and Celebrity Apprentice 8).  On January 2, 2017, Wilson was the second contestant fired, finishing in 15th place, earning no money for her charity, The Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America.

    Wilson Phillips reunited and performed on ABC’s Greatest Hits in July 2016.  Wilson made a guest appearance on the reality show The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in February 2017.
